Ender's Game: The Movie

Coming in November, the release of the theatrical adaptation of one of my all time favorite books, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I highly recommend this book to anyone, it's a great read. The first trailer from the movie has been released, I'm excited...can hardly wait.

Fringe & Peter's Sweet Triumph Jacket

It took her a bit of time, but eventually my dear friend, Jennie Z. convinced me to watch the TV series Fringe on Netflix. Not sure what took me so long, she always said "you liked X-Files, well than this is right up your alley." Now I'm hooked, the show is centered around an FBI task force called the Fringe Division that investigates cases involving fringe science. This show has all my faves, parallel universes, time travel, shapeshifters, psionic abilities, alternate timelines, zeppelins and more! And I've only gotten up through Season 2! One thing I couldn't help but notice in the first 2 seasons, how one of the main characters, Peter Bishop a consultant to the FBI, is always rocking a sweet Triumph Moto Jacket. Quite stylishly at that!

Interesting enough, last night I was a watching a couple of episodes and a few things caught my attention. In back to back episodes, "The Man From the Other Side"  and "Brown Betty" ( Season 2, Episodes 19 & 20 ), feature 2 of my all time favorite rock bass lines and legendary bassist. Opening scene of "The Man..." has two young people sitting in a car (smoking weed) listening to "Tom Sawyer" by Rush. A scene in "Brown Betty" depicts Dr. Walter Bishop in his lab (smoking weed), listening to "Roundabout" by Yes. So there you have Geddy Lee and Chris Squire getting props on an awesome sci-fi program. Another thing was an oddly placed motorcycle and rider on top of a container in the background for but a moment, in another scene from "The Man From the Other Side".

Oblivion Motorbike and Tom Cruise

Sometimes I'll say "I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, but I do enjoy a few of his movies". And I have to admit, I'm looking to forward to the release of "Oblivion". Now I'm reminded of another reason I enjoy Tom Cruise, he rides. And what I learned in the clip below, at 50 years old, doing some of his own motorcycle stunts on film!

J K Woodward: Star Trek/Doctor Who Crossover Artist

Firsthand, admitting, the above image is not offered on the sale that will be mentioned throughout the remainder of this post. I just thought it was a great piece to introduce J. K. Wooward's  work to the uninitiated. Among many other things, he is the artist / illustrator whose work graces the covers and pages of Star Trek:TNG / Doctor Who crossover limited comic series offered by IDW Press. As well, he is as artist with a bit of need, not looking for a handout, but support, and thanks for his livelihood and talents as a means to care for provide for he and his family.

Here's the deal in his own words.

"In November my wife and I suffered a huge loss from Hurricane Sandy. Our home was lost along with almost everything we own. We came up with some fund raising ideas to get us back on our feet and into a home where we can start to rebuild. One was to make prints from previous works and commissions to sell as prints.

Well now things are much better! We have a temporary home and have money saved up and are planning a move to a permanent residence on May 1st, though we are still almost $2,000.00 shy of what we need to do it.

So to help with some of that, I’ve started another limited 2 week sale. All prints are signed and numbered.
These are what I have made available for now. They are all 11 x 17 .

All prints are limited and were created simply for this fund raiser.
It is unlikely you will see these again, so if you see something you like, now’s the time! I’ll keep this sale going only until April 9th. At that time the sale will be closed and all orders will be shipped." J. K. Woodward's blog

Planet Of The Apes: 45th Anniversary

Even after being released 45 years ago on February 8, 1968, this movie is still riveting and entertaining. Captivating storytelling, breath taking locations, groundbreaking make-up, incredible musical score and very memorable dialogue. A true cinematic classic. One of my all-time favorite movies, I never grow tired of it. To celebrate it's anniversary, I'm just going to share some of my favorites lines from the movie.

  • Cornelius: [reading from the sacred scrolls of the apes] Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.
  • Dr. Zaius: You are a menace. A walking pestilence.
  • Dr. Zaius: You are right, I have always known about man. From the evidence, I believe his wisdom must walk hand and hand with his idiocy. His emotions must rule his brain. He must be a warlike creature who gives battle to everything around him, even himself.

Where Is The Rebel Bass?

"Where is the Rebel base?" that's what Grand Moff Tarkin asked Princess Leia before obliterating Alderaan, in Stars Wars: A New Hope, by unleashing the power of the Death Star on her peaceful homeworld. A number of us know where the Rebel Bass is, it's shape like the Millennium Falcon and  all over cyberspace, thanks to a highly visible meme,"I've Found the Rebel Bass."

Star Wars ( Episodes IV-V-VI and beyond ) have rocked the universe since 1977, and continues to gain fans spanning generations. Now much more than a series of films, it's a franchise worth more than $30 billion and growing! It not only taps deep into our wallets but has spread all through pop culture as well, I guess it's only fitting that it's even seeped into the (once rebellious ) world of Rock N' Roll.
