Moto Goodness

GOODNESS-as defined by the Random House Dictionary: excellence of quality; goodness of workmanship; the best of anything; essence; strength. To be forthright, it's only been in recent years that this obsession of "MOTO" has truly manifest, but the love is genuine. Motorbikes, Aeroplanes, Automobiles and all that is designed, built and driven to perform is appreciated.

Star Trek & Sci Fi

STAR TREK (The Original Series) was the beginning of a life-long, love of Science Fiction and Science Fact and all other things of a Fantastic Nature. Whether it was Comic Books, Live-Action Television, Motion Pictures or Animated Cartoons, the media did not matter, as long as it was a means to transverse space and time ... or alter reality.

Hammer of the Gods

THE HAMMER OF THE GODS A metaphor for music, how it can forge, shape and mold our lives. A means to transport and transform. I'm not a musical scholar or theorist. Simply, someone who has played and listened to quite a bit of music.  Just a bloke who knows what he likes and dislikes. Also, I'm a bass player, so expect a lot of attention paid to the bottom end!

AN-BU Monster-Yamaha XS650

Here we have another beefy Yamaha XS-650 offering from the folks at AN-BU Custom Motors located in Aichi, Japan. Since I did a bit on The Damned bass players yesterday, I thought it only fitting to show a bike that pays a bit of tribute to the aforementioned band.

On the seat/tail cowl section are the lyrics from the chorus of "Love Song" by The Damned, but with a bit of twist, the title lyric '"Love Song"' has been replaced with "Monster" It goes like: "Just for you, Here's a Monster, Just for you, Here's a Monster, And it makes me glad to say, It's been a lovely day, And it's okay".

The Damned, a very brief and incomplete history of one the longest ( but not continuous) running punk bands. The original line-up was Dave Vanian: vocals, Brian James: guitar, Rat Scabies: drums and Captain Sensible: bass guitar. Being one of the original London punk bands, forming in 1976, they were the first of this lot to release a single: "New Rose" on Stiff records. They also earned credit for being the first British punk band to release a full length album, also on Stiff, "Damned Damned Damned" , which produced the bass pulse driven, single "Neat Neat Neat". And to chalk up one more first for the band, in 1977 they became the first British punk band to tour the United States.

Also in '77, they added second guitarist Lu Edmonds. When it was time to record their second album, "Music For Pleasure" the Damned sought out Syd Barrett as a producer, but he declined or didn't want to leave the house or something like that. So they settled for his Pink Floyd bandmate, Nick Mason. Before the record was even released, Scabies quit the band, stating his utter dislike with the record as his reason. The album bombed commercially and critically, and after the promotional tour for "Music For Pleasure", The Damned broke up in early 1978. This would only leave room for many reformations and a long list of bass players to follow.

Norton 1007cc Streetfighter

This is the prototype Seeley Norton 1007cc Street Fighter, built by NYC Norton. A highly tuned Norton Commando engine is housed in 1968 Seeley MK2 replica chassis. It is set up with lighting and charging, but can quickly be converted for Unlimited Class track racing.

The company set out to build the most feared machine in the big city streets, with careful use of throttle as a necessity! Soon to be headed to production, the bikes will be built to order for road or race.

A Brief Break ...& More Snow

Had a very welcome break in the cold temperatures over the weekend, it was tough resisting the urge to take the loaner out and just ride. But truth be told, I miss riding MY bike. So to task, I went. Since I had replaced the cylinder, I most certainly had to adjust the valve clearance. And since the bike has been sitting for a bit, I went ahead and cleaned the carbs. Also changed the oil and filter, which was in a sad state. Anyway, it was time to see what she had to say after being immobile once again.

As I expected, it took quite a bit of 'tricity to get her awake again, but with the help of a jump starter, got that cold engine to turn over, and once again she roared to life!!!! Dang, I love that sound. I did some quick tweaking on the carbs and had her sounding somewhat presentable, so I took her out to terrorize the neighborhood with a few laps around the 'burbs. Even got around to attending to some of the rust, although I found myself without any scotch brite pads, but I got a good start with sand paper and a wire wheel. We're getting there...

Corvette Museum Artwork

Couple of weeks ago, I was assigned the task at work, to come up with some designs for a potential new client, the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. About a week into the project, I see a news headline reporting on a huge sinkhole that "swallowed" eight classic cars at the museum, my boss was out of town, but I emailed him about it and but told me to go ahead and complete the designs. Anyway, just thought I'd share some of what I came up with.

All artwork is © Ocean Creek Apparel was done on "the man's" time, therefore it's all his.

Moon Eyes - Yokohama 2013 by Good Sleep Blog

All of these images are taken from the Good Sleep Blog. I just think it's so friggin' cool that so many different types of bikes are captured entering the Moon Eyes Yokohama Hot Rod and Custom show. Just as interesting as the bikes are the individual styles of the riders on these fantastic machines. Go over to the Good Sleep site to see page after page of some really inspiring motobikes.

Really, it may seem like I have posted a lot of pics from this blog, but there are a ton more where I got these from!
