Moto Goodness

GOODNESS-as defined by the Random House Dictionary: excellence of quality; goodness of workmanship; the best of anything; essence; strength. To be forthright, it's only been in recent years that this obsession of "MOTO" has truly manifest, but the love is genuine. Motorbikes, Aeroplanes, Automobiles and all that is designed, built and driven to perform is appreciated.

Star Trek & Sci Fi

STAR TREK (The Original Series) was the beginning of a life-long, love of Science Fiction and Science Fact and all other things of a Fantastic Nature. Whether it was Comic Books, Live-Action Television, Motion Pictures or Animated Cartoons, the media did not matter, as long as it was a means to transverse space and time ... or alter reality.

Hammer of the Gods

THE HAMMER OF THE GODS A metaphor for music, how it can forge, shape and mold our lives. A means to transport and transform. I'm not a musical scholar or theorist. Simply, someone who has played and listened to quite a bit of music.  Just a bloke who knows what he likes and dislikes. Also, I'm a bass player, so expect a lot of attention paid to the bottom end!

Sunday Loop

Met up with Jason yesterday to take a little ride out to my friend, Bob's farm to check out a '71 Moto Guzzi they he picked up at Mid-Ohio Vintage Motorcycle Days. We hooked up with Jason's buddy, John, near the ocean front and headed out. Upon arrival at Bob's, not only did we get to check out his latest aquisition, he was gracious enough to supply us with liquid refreshments as he gave us a tour of his "Super Secret Bat-Cave."

Here, he has stockpiled quite the collection of vintage motorcycles, cars, surfboards and guitars.  I'd seen most of this before, but for Jason and John, this was their first look. Interesting how they were spotting the classic surfboards, all of which I , not being a surfer,  pretty much ignored before. Definitely some cool eyecandy. He refers too all of it as his "retirement plan", and swore us all to secrecy of the actual contents and whereabouts of his secret stash..I will honor his wishes and keep all the pics I took offline, but I did get him to agree with me posting a few pics of the Guzzi.

Jenn's "Baby": 1976 Honda CB 750F Super Sport

Last week I mentioned a "loaner" bike I had been afforded privilege to ride for many, many, many miles. On numerous occasions of either my bike(s) being in a state of repair or ride prohibiting modification, without hesitation, my dear friend, Jennifer, allowed me to ride her motorcycle. Meet Jenn's Baby, a 1976 Honda CB750F Super Sport. When I first met Jenn, I remember her telling me that she had wanted a motorcycle for some time. I asked her why didn't she have one and she replied,"I don't know how to ride".  I told her she should learn and suggested that she take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. She signed up for the course and starting looking for a bike to purchase.

Jenn had expressed a fondness for cafe racer styled motorbikes and was interested in finding an old Honda CB550 or 750, that she could convert into a racer. She had been inspired by some of the bike's being built by Steve "Carpy" Carpenter of CB750 Cafe. While in search for a donor bike, she came  upon a listing on Craig's List, for a '76 CB750 with very low mileage and looked to be in pretty decent condition. I recall going to look at the bike in person with her, when we pulled into the driveway of the then owner's house, the bike was sitting outside of his garage, as we exited the car and approached the machine, Jenn gasped loudly and squeezed my arm, while saying, "Oh my God, it's so pretty!" It was love at first sight.

Guzzi As Art

While I certainly love a vintage motorcycle. And I really appreciate seeing a restored or well maintained classic bike. What really excites me, is seeing a vintage bike that has been revised in the hands of craftsman. Here is wonderful example, a 1970 Moto Guzzi V7 Special. This machine has been stripped back to it's bare necessities and even borrows a few bits from other bikes. most notable, the Harley Davidson/Aermacchi petrol tank.
